I am considering getting a new tank, I have been out of saltwater game for a while. However I recently got the bug again to start up a tank and have done so with a 28 gallon nano cube but I don't feel this is going to work long term. I would love to hear any good and bad experiences with the red sea reefer line of aquariums. I will be doing a mixed reef with a little bit of everything. Thanks for any feedback you can provide.

Thanks
Allen

Beautiful line of tanks. Some of their models are all inclusive with pumps, sumps, lights, everything. With the built in powerbar it couldnt be more simple. Corner Reef has a display of every model they have. Should make the drive and check it out.

Thanks chucklez, I'll take a drive after the weather clears up some

I honestly don't think you are going to hear anything bad at all about the Reefer series tanks. I would imagine the only complaint is that the ATO is on the small side. However, the ATO is almost just a freebie from Red Sea. It's not like there's much money in the ATO... so don't feel bad if you chuck it for something that suits your needs better. If you really want a ton of Reefer series feedback, info, ideas, images, mods etc, then please take a look at the Reefer specific thread I started on the "other" reef forum. It's over 160 pages at this point with a wealth of info. Just Google "Reefer Thread" and it should be the first thing to pop up.

The reason I like the Reefer series is that it comes with the sump, plumbing and stand... all quality items. So in my case, I rocked those for a year on my Reefer 450. It got me up and running while I'll took the time to plan my custom sump, plumbing and electronics display in the chiller area of the stand.

I got the JBJ 45RL. I feel it is a really good system. The lights are good but you can easily upgrade them and the rimless design is very nice. I also like that they are a bit cheaper than the Red Sea but honestly seem to have very similar designs. If you have the pumps and light then I would say the JBJ is just as bit as good as the Red Sea without the extras. If you want the extras I will admit the Red Sea comes with better pumps and lighting.

The Red Sea Reefer does not come with any sort of pumps. And until recently didn't have a Red Sea option for lighting either. Now you can get the "Deluxe" version which adds Hydra 26's and very nice mounting arms. But most people run their own lights.

As far as the JBJ 45RL, it's not anything like the Reefer series aside from being rimless. The JBJ is an all-in-one setup. The Reefer is a full fledged "reef ready" tank with separate sump, plumbing etc. They really are nothing alike.... thus the pricing being far higher on the Reefer.

I didn't read correctly. I had thought it was the Red Sea with the "sump" area in the back not the one with the separate sump in the bottom of the cabinet. I agree, those are really nice.
