Red Slime algae

How is it formed? How do you get rid of it?

I keep getting this slimy algae in certain spots of my tank, i readjust the power heads and remove it but it keeps coming back. I have a 100 gallon tank with 2 power heads(maxi-jet 1200 maxi-jet 900) and one stationary powrrhead that came with the tank. I bought the tank used so i am not sure if the heads are good or not.

how long has the tank been running? What kind of water are you using for water changes and top off?

I have heard a little cyano is typical as the tank matures.

the tank was up in running for 2 years up until the time i bought it and we have had it for almost 6 months. I have well water.

How are your water test it loves nitrates and phos and it also loves lights if your light cycle is to long that could be feeding it too. Trying turning your light for a day.

my ph 8.2 my nitrates alwys in blue and bright yellow. But if my lights go off what would my fish do? maybe i should cut it back i run at 10-12 hrs a day now.

They say 7-8 hours of light I turned mine off for one day and i went away but was back the next then i setup a fuge and bought a bigger skimmer and the cyno went away
