Red Slime Algea

turning off the lights for 72 hours, followed by a 25-30% water change helps tremendously too. But only if you have attacked the cause as well (added more flow for example).

I've found that turning off the lights for that long has a much worse effect on my corals and macro plants than the cyano ever did. So any more I just slow down the feeding a little and wait it out. Occasionaly I use a turkey baster to blow off thick loose clumps on the rocks. Just when I think it will never clear, the cyano starts to fade away on it's own.

had same problem in sand bed. tried red slime remover, worked but came back within months. tried rhowa phos w reactor, helped alot, but still never gone. tried more flow, nope. new bulbs, nope. cut back lighting, nope, cut back feedings, rinsed food, nope.finally w bb and havent seen for almost 2 months. good luck, sometimes wonder if sand bed gets to old, stirred my shallow sand bed weekly to no avail.

never heard of such thing with the old sand bed

Red Slime remover and increase of flow and direction as to where the flow was going. It seems to be working for me now, been about 2 weeks since I have had it all over the place...

Picture below was 2 weeks ago has it on rocks and sand. I adjusted my powerheads and today even added another one just to be sure.

I did the red slime remover route and it worked for a while, but would always come back, I quit feeding flake food of any kind and removed my filter socks, and the majority of it hasnt come back.
