Red Slime/Cyano

The last time I had a red slime/cyano outbreak was about 3 or 4 months ago. Every month I do a 3 days lights out treatment to elimanate and prevent these outbreaks from happenening, usually they do a great job. However an outbreak has occured on my sandbed and on a rock. On my first outbreak I used red slime remover which really caused my skimmer to bubble out of control, but I quickly killed off the red slime. My tank is about 6 months old and I would like to use this red slime reomver again to eliminate it. I will shut my skimmer off this time. Basically I want to just check is this is the proper way to go about this?

Before trying to use futher chemicals try by adding more water circulation in your tank. Give us more specs about your tank, this would give an idea of what it can be. My first red algae outbreak was some three years back and I found that I had very poor circulation just added some more circulation and till today have not had an outbreak again.

Yes, If would keep my skimmer of for 72 hours do a 15 gallon water change. Test the skimmer if it ran fine I would keep it on. If it didnt' keep it off for another 48 hours and do a 10 gallon water change than try the skimmer again. Does this seem like a good plan? The tank is a 65 Gallon.

I used it on my 65 and I think I did a 10g Wc after. And I didn't have any problems. But I would do what the directions say to do.
