Red slime remover

Well I am tired of this red Cyano :headwalls::headwalls:

Had GHA everywhere, finally got it under control by adding a sump/turbo snails but now the Cyano is taking its place. I have tried the 3 days of darkness and sucking it up with a siphon, that actually worked pretty good. But I turned back on the lights yesterday and already it has doubled and is taking over the tank once again. :mad2:

Nitrates: 0
Phosphates: I don't know, my test was giving me a 0 but I think the algae/rock is holding it all up. Il try and test again tonight.

Im done with all this bacteria and thinking of trying Chemiclean red slime remover. Any other suggestions would be helpful because I hate using chemicals that could cause issues but im at the end of my rope with this cyano.

Also any comments about your experience with redslime remover would be great. :hammer:

Chemiclean would work for the time being, but it will probably come back

What's the flowrate like in the tank?

I have used chemiclean with great success in the past. Every time I have used it it has worked. I don't know what the underlying issues that cause it are and I don't know if there are any negatives to using chemiclean but I know it just works. Follow the instruction, I think you have to remove activated carbon or take your skimmer offline or both.

Double the water change amount your currently doing and up it to once a week. Cut the amount you are feeding in half. Give it time you will win the battle.

You have to export more nutrients than you import. It really is as simple as that.

I currently do 15% a week. and already feed very little, I was actually starving my fish for awhile to try and stop it,

It was getting out of hand so I used Chemiclean. I took the carbon out and doubled the GFO. I left the skimmer going to add oxygen but I removed the cup so it constantly overflowed. I did a 60 gallon water change on a 210 gallon tank after 2 days. I used an Ehieim drop-in filter with an airline sucking air into the output. The tank was full of bubbles and the coral put out a lot of slime.

After the water change, I replaced the carbon, put in new GFO at the old amount, replaced the skimmer cup and removed the drop-in filter. All of the red cyano was gone, no corals were damaged and the fish acted like nothing had even happened. Within two weeks, all the hair algae was also gone. It's been 8 or 9 months and it hasn't returned (neither the red cyano or the hair algae).

I would use it again if it comes back.

You've got a major water quality issue then IMO. What's the tanks size, lighting, and parameters?

I'm actually battling a cyano outbreak now and I keep reading that it's a water quality issue but my phosphates are .02 and nitrates are 5. RODI water measures 0 TDS before it enters the tank.

4 T5 lighting, 2, 49 watt white and 2, 49 watt blue. Stocking is 2 clownfish and one watchmen goby in a 38gallon tank with a 5 gallon sump.

All of my parameters are in range in fact nitrates are low as I have ever had them at 0

Im guessing its a phosphate issue, but cant get a reading on it. Might buy a new test for it.

But I ordered Chemiclean and one way or another its going to DIE :angryfire::angryfire::angryfire::angryfire:

Try running Kents Phosphate Sponge 1st. Run it for 48 hours then replace if needed. The amount for your tank should be calculated from the instructions on the package. It works for me even when my phosphates register low

Well I treated the tank 2 days ago with chemiclean. Killed most of it off but now should I do a 20% WC or should I wait until tomorrow (72 hours) The directions say 48 but a lot of people seem to do 72?

Red slime remover

I used this product a few days ago and cyano was gone after one treatment. I had the green cyano.

My skimmer went nuts and I'm still tuning it back to normal. And I did a 25% water change. I didn't have to add an extra power head or even turn off my bio pellet reactor.

After 48 hours or 72 did you do the WC?
