RED slime

what causes red slime i have tried the red slime removal and it takes it away for a few weeks i was wondering is anyone had and suggestions on what i can do???

Chances are there's not enough flow in that area. A powerhead or larger return pump should help. Wouldn't hurt to run a phosphate removing media either...

How old is your tank? If it is fairly new, its just part of being a new tank. With my first tank, my red slime stage didnt start until the tank was 5 months old. Higher water flow and keeping your parameters in check helps.

i would say try flow and get your water tested. check the phosphates. if those are zero, i would get a better clean up crew or some red legged hermits and some snails.

Several things can cause cyanobacteria
I would consider all of the above thoughts as well as dissolved organics as a big issue as well. How well is your skimmer working?I would also suggest doing a fairly large water change and trying to suction as much as possible off the affected areas during this process.

Okay, so here is what I would do. Higher flow, like everyone else has said, PLUS I would get some Strombus alatus (fight conch), this will help future break outs.

HE LAST TIME YOU DID A WATER CHAND=GE I DO THEM WEEKLY NO MATER WHAT AND NEED MORE FLOW OR BIGGER PUMP SO THE WATER RECERULATES MORE

I hate using the red slime remover, I never had good luck with it. I have noticed sometime when I get my water from a different source I run into problems. Good luck!

I'm going through the same problem right now. I just battled my second round of slime and it's been away for a week now. I turned off my lights and covered my tank for 3 days which killed all of the slime. I also added another pump for more flow. I think I had some zoas dying off which weren't helping the cause at all.

Over feeding is the biggest source of cyano outbreaks. If you aren't overfeeding and you still have continuous problems with slime algae then it might be time to consider upgrading your filtration and skimmer.

I usualy only run into slime algae problems with a new tank, but I've had outbreaks in older tanks when I didn't clean the skimmer or service the filters. usually a little maintenance along with 2 back to back chemi clean treatments and a big water change will knock it out. I do 2 treatments because sometimes if you don't knock it all out...it can come back quite easily.
