Red Sump Slime?

Seams to be a common theme in my sump/fuge. (revamped it a few times) If I let it go it gets pretty thick and even got on my cheato. I had it get onto one of my rocks in the DT a little while back. I just increased a little flow towards the rock and it cleared up over a week or so. I've seen picture of others skimmers with he same red/purple... Let it go? Keep wiping it off early?

Thx!

Matt

do you feed frozen mysis or brine shrimp?

make sure S.G. is @ 1.026 and skimmer is properly sized and tuned.

prevent light from reaching skimmer- cyano needs some light in order to grow..

Thx Gary,

I do feed mysis and keep my SG at 1.026. Skimmer is properly sized, I'll look at maybe re-tuning it. It's right next to my fuge so I may have a problem with cutting down the light long term. I do get it in the fuge as well other areas of the sump. I have a 5k on my fuge 24/7...

Can you expound?

Matt

some frozen foods will cause more cyano growth due to higher nutrient import with feeding. Can also add krill to the list. Rinsing in ro water before feeding is not a bad idea. Although regular brine is not such a great source of nutrition, the enhanced and the sperulina brine is not bad. Mysis is pretty good to use.
