Where is the rock farm in the gulf in respect to the fish and wildlife web sit? http://www.floridamarine.org/features/category_sub.asp?id=4434

We are inside of the little red dots, on the county line of Pinellas and Paso counties, about two miles off of Honeymoon Island.

This area had some impact from red tide, but nothing like another three miles out where there is total devastation, not one living thing is left.

Because we are close to shore we had tidal currents, ebb and flow from high and low tides that kept to oxygen levels up.

We dove the site this week, and were pleased to find the corals survived as did bivalves and clams, some sponges, plants and other encrusting alga.

This gives hope to the rest of the Gulf as now there will be a severe shortage of coral spat to repopulate the reef next year.

The corals on our rock will spawn next august, releasing spat that will land an begin to grow in the areas that have been destroyed by this red tide event.

Hi Richard. Glad you finally got a chance to dive the gulf site and very happy to hear it wasn't totally wiped out.

I've been waiting to find out the status of the gulf rocks before deciding whether or not to move ahead with keys rock for my part 2.

Whats the outlook for the gulf rock? I've already waited a number of months so if its on the order of weeks I can deal with that. But if its gonna be 6 months before you feel the site is ready for harvesting, then I should probably just go ahead and take the keys rock. I'm just a real sucker for the corals on the gulf rock! :-)

Also I really appreciate how you always come on here and give us updates. It nice not to be kept in the dark.

Thanks!
