Hello,
So I've always wanted one of these fish and had thought that I had done my research and from everything I saw on sites like LA and others a min tank size was always 50g with a max size of 3-4" depending on the site. So I went ahead and ordered one, not wysiwyg. Well I received the fish on Friday and to my surprise its around 5" long. I feel like this fish is just too big for my standard 58g 36", 18", 21" but figured I'd ask here first before I tried to find a new home for it. It's an incredible fish, but I'd much rather have it and my tank be happy.

thanks

Not trying to scare you but I had one in my 215 with a dozen + other wrasse and it was by far the most aggressive fish in the tank.

There just isn't an exact 'tank size'' source; but I've learned that "minimum" tank size often seems to be more important when it comes to tank length, rather than volume. There is a big difference between a 48" and a 36" long tank of roughly the same capacity. Its the swimming room that many fish need. These are very active fish (and jumpers) but IMO, if he isn't constantly pacing & hyper; and doesn't "look" (admittedly, a very objective standard) out of place---I think he'll be fine. Especially since he obviously has a very conscience owner. You're really only talking about a difference of 1" of fish.
