I had a 20 gallon that I setup back in June 2009 or so. It was a crummy tank and I had a bunch of fitlers, skimmers, powerheads hanging on the tank, and had a crummy lid and light for it.
It was time where I was just getting tired of looking at it. With the height of the tank there wasnt enough light getting to the corals on the bottom, and I didnt really have any free space for more corals.
I decided to redo this tank and do it better than I could in the past.
I got a tank from John, and drilled 3/4" bulkhead drains on the back wall of the tank, the tank was already drilled in the bottom off to one side. I used that as a return from the sump. The tank dimensions are 34x17x9, and was great as a frag setup/partial DT, and would be easy to light and to work in.
Last week I had finished the plumbing, drilling, building the stand, and the sump.
On thursday night last week I draing the original tank into a 20 gal tupperware container and moved all the corals, rock, inverts, and fish into and moved the old hunk of crap out. I setup the new tank, hooked up the plumbing and moved the rock and sand into the tank. I created a ledge type island whatnot on the one side to hide the return pipe that came up in the middle of the tank.
I filled the tank up and moved all the stuff back in. Due to the time of night and a busy weekend ahead I was only able to run the tank with 2 koralia nanos that were inside.
Yesterday I finally was able to hook up and get the sump running. Everything so far has gone smoothly and I like this tank a lot better than the other one.
Probably will be rearranging and adding more corals as time goes on here.
