Reducing Current Outer Orbit Fan Noise

As an adjunct to my earlier post seeking recommendation for quieter fan to use in Current Outer Orbit fixture, I have discovered a way to improve the sound with the fans that come with the unit. In particular, what I discovered was that the annoying high pitch whine is not so much attributable to the fans, per se, but to the vibration the fans create throughout the fixture body. Therefore, by putting a vibration isolator between the fan mounting bracket and the rails to which the mounting brackets attach, I was able to cut that bothersome whine to a large extent.

In particular, I put two layers of that spongey double-sided tape over the screw holes in the rail, then use the screws to attach the fan brackets back down over the double-sided tape. (The screws will "bite" into the double-sided tape slightly but can pull out easily, so don't tighten too much. It's just enough to help secure things in place a little more.) Then, because the double-sided tape is only contacting the rails and not the rest of the fixture body, I taped the ends of the fan brackets (the black ones attached directly to the fans) down in place using electrical tape, passing over the ends of the brackets and secured to the fixture housing surface. The sound is much improved.

It's good to know. I had Pet Solutions send me another fan because we thought it was bad. I haven't had a chance to install the new one, but when I do I'll try this out. Thanks!
