Reef a Palooza - a success?

The comments and feed back are appreciated. We will review everyone's feed back for next year. I think it went pretty well considering it was put on by a handful of people in our spare time.

We really can't force vender to take any sort of payment. That is up to them. Although I can't imagine why anyone selling large ticket items would not take credit cards. I have a credit card/cell phone machine if anyone needs one.

Tri tip sounds fantastic, but will cost a lot more and take more time and effort to cook it.

Salt e What do you mean a LFS style pure o2 tank?

Personally I would like to see it moved indoors or under one or two large tents. Again the cost will jump appreciably.

I'll work on the numbers, but I was thinking something like five or six bucks for a sandwich, chips and a soda. I can provide the BBQ and wood pellets. I figure I can do 5 or 8 at a time, and it takes a couple of hours each to cook. Problem is, there are only so many sandwiches you can make per piece and there were a TON of people there... It's the length of time to cook them that's the killer. I might also be able to do some pulled pork sandwiches, as well. Maybe do some the night before kinda thing...

I dunno. Any idea what kind of numbers the folks doing the BBQ had this time around? I can guesstimate off that and take a peek at it from there.

As for the 2 tent thing, not sure. Those'd be some pretty big tents. I think we'd be talking rental. Which means not free. I guess that would come out of SCMAS funds? I was looking at the buildings and was thinking it might be possible to drape tarps between buildings. This would require sinking a few anchors in the walls, though, and I'm not sure how receptive the landlord would be to that (although, in reality, I don't see how it would be that big of a deal either to do or to have them allow us to do it). But I dunno...

I MAY be able to get access to some covered space for a reasonable rate. However, it'd be in Fontana next to the speedway. Think that would be a feasible place for this event, or is it too far for the SCMAS group? And what kind of SQ footage would one estimate we would need (display as well as walking around room)? I wouldn't even know how to start guessing that...

If anyone can help get me some of these numbers I can chew on them for a bit and report back.

Thanks...

SCMAS' only source of funds are a) annual dues and b) raffle sales. There is no other source of income.

Planning for the 4th RAP will begin in May or June of next year. Keep those ideas cooking and they can always use more volunteers to help, especially for items like good deals on rentals.

Yeah, I know it's a bit premature. But I still want to work everything through so I know whether or not pursuing them further would be a waste of time...

Has it ever been considered to charge an entry fee for either selling/booth space or admission? Probably not as this was a backyard event last year, but... I mean, like five/ten/twenty bucks for a booth? Something small yet that can add up.

Shane bought $200.00 worth of raffle tickets. Some people have a lot of money to spend I guest???

I just set aside all the proceeds of my cheato sales throughout the year. (free to all of you locals by the way, but if I have to ship it, you ARE paying for it). I don't have any frags to donate, so I figure that is a little something I can give back to the club.

Last year I won a few things also, but most of those things went to a friend starting a reeftank except for the pods that I used to seed my refugium.

Hi all ihad a great time i thought it was great-even the burgers where good it was cool watching sharkdude and scotchmaster
where selling frags like crazie also raskal i got some stuff from all of them had a great time- there should be4 times year vending and frags selling parties! some one work on it lol thanks

I had nice time. The set-up wasn't too bad for the 3rd annual. I suggestion that might work for the frags. I think the biggest reason why there weren't that many frag vendors is the hassle of setting it up and taking it down. I might suggest the SCMAS, although it would be more work, might set up a few tanks or one large tank that people could have sectioned off or share. I'm sure there are a number of logistical issues, but I'm sure those can be worked. Otherwise, I'll see everyone next year.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the venders for their fantastic support! I can't believe I forgot them.

kernelangus - We had food and drinks for 250-300 people and just about sold out. Our best guess is we had around 500 people there. I know a lot of people left and got lunch else where. I love Tri-tip, but if you buy it for 300 people and only sell 200, you are up side down big time. You better be careful or you may be drafted as BBQ chef. :-)
It was not possible to attach awnings to the buildings for a verity of reasons. We considered charging admission this year, but considering the great turnout I think it was a good decision not to. We will be considering it again when discussing how to improve on RAP for next year.

TearDrop - We had a tank just for that at the very first booth. I posted that we would in the threads several times. I sold over $500.00 worth of frags for other people and a few of my own.

As for the BBQ, I'm still thinking about how I'm gonna be able to pull that off. Fortunately, I have an event coming up where there will be likely 1000 people and most will eat. My approach will be to try to figure out ways to mostly pre-cook the meat, and toss it into the BBQ to heat through/finish up (gonna be tricky, though, as you'd end up having to warm up something that is cold (cooking it twice - which doesn't sound like a great idea!)). I know someone who does catering and I'll get their feedback on it.

Also, I think we'd still want to have hamburgers/hot dogs (maybe some of those hot links that we had at reefmeister2's place?). So if we ran out of tri-tip/pork/whatever, we'd still have something for others to eat.

I'll use the big event to test things out and go from there. And yeah, being upside down and holding on to a ton of meat would kinda suck. But we'll see...

Thanks for the numbers. I would probably estimate about the same (300?). However, it'd be (substantially!) more expensive and that might turn some people off. Any thoughts on that?

Beuller?

If it was in Fontucky, I dont think I would have gone, and I think a lot of others wouldnt have either, but maybe more convienient for others? I'm not sure.

Noted. Had to throw it out there...

And hey, we're the INLAND reefers - we made it out to OC. Although, there are/werent that many of us...

*shrug*

BTW can anyone tell me who "aquatic marines" is and how I can cash in this gift certificate? I can't find anything online (or perhaps I'm losing my Google-Fu...).

Danke.
