I have a chocolate chip that I will be taking to the LFS before I get any corals...
However, the family is now attached to the idea of a star in the tank.. Any ideas of a sea star/starfish I can have with corals AND fish?
Wanted a green brittle sea star, but......LFS said it'll eat my fish in their sleep!!!
Doesn't sound very sporting now does it????

Most of the other brittle starfish are fairly safe. That's about it for the full-sized starfish, though. I got some mini-starfish as cleanup crew, but they're at most about an inch across.

Ahhhhh..... so any other brittle starfish besides the green then??
small is not necessarily a bad thing, what kind of mini-starfish do you have? Maybe I can order them? LFS could order as well...

Those are Fromia Starfish. There's a lot of controversy on the ability to keep them in a reef because there's little known about what they actually consume for sustenance. I have seen success with them, but I think that you won't have any real chances of keeping them from wasting away from the moment you put it into your reef unless you have a minimum of about 100-pounds of live rock and your reef is less than a year old. IMO, that's the starting point.

I have mini-starfish from IPSF.com and InlandAquatics.com (asterinids). They'd be very expensive to order on their own, due to shipping costs.

ive had a green brittle and a pink paddle brittle in my tank for over 6 months now along with 4 green chromies, 2 ocellaris clowns, lawnmower blenny, a hand full of hermits and snails. He has never even looked at my other fish.

I scooter blenny (little guy)
1 sand sifter Goby
1 tomato clown
1 domino damsel (starter fish I couldn't catch!)
1 purple stripe dotty back

and then I have a small clean up crew of hermits, snails, 1 emerald crab and 1 cleaner shrimp...

50 gallon with 65 lbs live rock........

yeah im not saying the green wont just that i havnt had it happen, the pink paddle (2nd pic) are really neat to see up close, not sure about other names for it and i believe has less of a bad rep

Go with a serpent or any color brittle other than green. I had a green till it ate one of my 40 dollar black clowns, now I have a brown and no problems. I agree I love stars and my chacolate chip is one of my fav, however the brittle just arnt the same they move too fast unlike the slow nice looking CC star.LOL Linkas are a bad choice because they die in most tank of malnutrition, but there is a red one that is supposed to do great in tanks, but I can't say for sure as I have never owned one. Good luck with your choice. I love my inverts such as urchins stars and crabs so I know how you fell.

Another choice is to add a 10 gal full fuge and put your CC star in there. I did that till I added mine to my 29 gal FOWLR tank.

the day i added my yellow-headed sleeper goby, he darted down into the rock island the green lives in and laid on top of his arm for a good 30 minutes before going about his duties sifting the sand.

Yeah I'm gonna add a fuge but not for a bit...
Wish there was something else like the Chocolate chip :(

he's nice and slow moving, like apiece of furniture... LOL!
Actually if I had my wish it would be that he didnt' want ot eat zoas, mushrooms and feathers......
