Reef Brite LED Strip Light

I read something a while ago that they do indeed use 3W Crees but I don't remember where I read it. They DO at least use some kind of 3W LED but don't drive it fully, IIRC they run a little under 1.5W to stabilize spectrum over the long term and keep heat to a minimum as they are passively cooled through their aluminum bodies. I really like the reflector design and they are exceedingly bright IMHO for what they are, you could completely light most tanks with 3 of them for the most part and I have trouble staring directly into them w/o feeling my retinas are burning up. They just came out with a newer XHO model which has even more LED's per foot, 36 vs 24 for the 48" model.

I would shoot them an email if you want an official call on Cree or not. They are very responsive as a company in my experience: I needed a bracket for mine because I had a very early model and later a minor revision came about that modified it slightly which caused me mounting issues when I got a second one. I called up asking if they could sell me the newer bracket and they ended up saying no problem they just would send me them free. A few days later I got a delivery of half a dozen brackets when all I needed was two so they went above and beyond in my eyes.

I replaced the t-5s over my 90 lps/softy tank with 4 of the 48" older non xho strips, 2 white and 2 blue. I could have probably gotten away with just 2 but 4 of them are quite impressive. Everything in the tank looks better with these and the shimmer bonus. Immediately solved the heat issues caused by the t-5s.

No, I was talking about the L brackets they come with. For some reason the very early model I had came with a slightly different one with thinner metal. The holes were also in a slightly different pattern that interfered with the way I was going to mount them.

The new XHO ones mean you could probably get away with 2 where 3 were required before. I like them for being very svelte along with low heat. I have them in a canopy with one small fan blowing fresh air in and they barely get warm to the touch. Having multiple ones hooked up to my Apex lets me control them individually to ramp them up and down morning and night.
