reef builder lowers ph slightly

When I does 2.5 teaspoons of reef builder into my 200 gallon system it lowers my ph b. 0.2-.03. I would think it would have the opposite effect, is this normal?

Buffers can be made to lower pH, have no effect at a particular pH, or to raise pH.

Reef Builder claims to be mixed to about a pH of 8.3. So if the tank is at 8.3, they claim it has little impact on pH. If the pH is well be 8.3, it will boost pH. If the pH is above 8.3, it will lower pH.

What was the pH before the addition?

FWIW, I'm surprised that 2.5 teaspoons has much impact at all in a 200 gallon system. Did you let it mix in before measuring pH?

The ph was 8.12 b/f, about 1 minute after it was 8.09, a few minutes later is was 8.10. Id does this everytime after I add the builder. I add the builder to the return side of my sump, the ph probe is in the skimmer section of the sump so the builder has to travel to the tank and back down the overflow for the ph probe to read it.

yep you are right, it was supposed to be .02. They are insignificant but they do happen everytime I add the builder...I just thought it was wierd and wanted to know if it was normal.
