So Dr. foster and smith are advertising the new marineland reef capable LED lighting fixture. I was wondering if this fixture would be ok for softies on a 125 gallon tank? I would probably need 3 of the smaller ones because of the support bars but they are way cheaper than other LED fixtures. these look any good?

it'd be nice to get a response here unlike the lighting thread that everyone has been ignoring. thanks!

from what i read my first flag is that its all on one cord. and keeps saying you can manually turn on blues then whites and off. so no timer can be used. not good as we want consistency with our lighting

I've been using the smallest one on a 10 gallon for a couple of months. Had to raise it about 6" off the water to get decent light spread but it's only a 12" high tank. It's also a fairly narrow spread front to back. For a nano tank they're a good option but any larger tank more than 18" front to back would probably need a double row or supplemental lights to illuminate the whole tank.

I agree the fixture should have had separate cords for the blues and whites. I'm running these LEDs as my dusk dawn actinics instead.

That said I have no doubt they'll support softies and LPS in your tank with proper placement.

thank you for the responses! I was thinking some of those same things. Seems they haven't perfected the model yet... darn! was looking good tho! I may just look into building my own LEDs if it's less $$ than an ATI fixture lol
