Anyone using Reef Ceramics in an SPS only tank?

I am thinking of using this rather than LR, can those using them please comment on how they like them, and its Pros / Cons.

Thanks
Vince

I know of people that have them and LOVE them i want them myself but cant afford to put any more money into my new set up I have a guy that sells them local to me here he actually sells them a lil bit cheaper then captive oceans does

Does the guy have a web-site with the ceramic rock? Also does he carry the same shapped pieces that captive oceans carries? Thanks, Dan.

Spill the beans man, Or send us pms so he dont get in trouble for undercutting CO.;)
I have some RC and love it, Make sure you cure it in liverock.
If its the only thing in your tank it will leach po4's and grow algea all over it till it sheds the po4. JMO I had no problems with it, Some reported high po4 leaching from it, and diatom blooms from hell.

im not sure if i am allowed to give out his info on here with out getting in trouble. And yes there the same shapes as CO he gets them through them. He has a store out here by me his website never gotten back up as far as I know.

I was looking for a reef ceramics mini reef for my new nano, but it seems that everybody in the US is sold out of them. I talked with Scott at Aquarium Specialty and he told me about the Aquaroche products they had. Im going to check the Aquarium Specialty booth out at MACNA and hopefully come home with a nice piece

I just spoke to a neighbor, he is a ceramic artist, he said he will make me a few small pieces and fire them in the next week to see if they will work. If they do, he said If I buy the ceramic/clay he could make my whole tank...

Thats awesome Just do some research beacause I remember somewhere that regular ceramic is no goosd for saltwater PLEASE do the research just incase ;)

If you guys are interested search the DIY forum the was a Cermic artist in there that had the whole method explained. The reef safe type of clay, kiln temp, etc.. It's been awhile but it was a long useful thread.

I am building/making my tank rockwork out of ceramic. Tank is almost 400 gallons. Last pic is from the tank I used to experiment with. This is what it looked like after about nine months.

Have you decided whether or not you want to start making custom pieces?
BTW, those frag stations are still working awesome!

gooch,
I spoke with my neighbor and he already knows all about which clays, curing and firing. I can't wait but I guess I will have to, looks like about a month long process.

BTW Those look really nice.

My life is to crazy right now to add anything to it. So I would have to say probably not. Glad the FS works for you.

AZ good luck with it. I definately reccomend just making a small piece and putting it in your tank first to test it. I tested my samples for over a year before I felt good about using it. Researched it for a year as well. Not all clay is created equal.

gooch
thanks, I have been thinking of doing this for a while and with my neighbor being a ceramics artist that I think is a big plus. I understand about he clay and there is quite a choice, we are going to make 3 or 4 small pieces and put them in a couple of 20G nanos to test.
Thanks

Whiler researching the use of ceramic tile for mounting frags, I relied on a group located in Clemson SC, national Ceramics Assoc. or something. Great group of people who were very helpful and provided a wealth of info on various types ( and the risks ) of ceramics.

Its been several years but their biggest concern was the possible leaching of heavy metals which were quite high in certain types. They recommended I stay away from foreign or imported ceramics. The US regulated domestic production.

If interested, I will see if I can locate some contact info....?
