Reef Chemistry issue

Hi all!

So I have a nitrite issue ... I decided to do a test in prep for my water change and noticed a less then zero reading (I checked three times). It's been zero before so the kit should be good. This is day 2 of the same reading I never noticed since all the inhabitants are doing fine including inverts.

I keep reading ~.25 ppm maybe a little less. Ammonia 0 nitrates 20 - 30ppm temp 78 sg 1.024.

It's a 65 fowlr 15 gallon sump

CUC: 1 brittle star, 1 green serpent star, assorted snails and hermits (they have plenty of shells so no stealing)

Livestock: 2 ocellaris 1 bicolor blenny(newish).

Normal? Emergency water change time? Stop worrying all will be well your just new? Which is it haha?

It's fine at the levels noted but may indicate a developing problem.

The nitrite itself is harmless at the level noted. I'd watch the ammonia closely as nitrite is the first by product of ammonia oxidation followed by nitrate . If this is a new tank ,a cycle or secondary cylcle ,sometimes from die off in new live rock, may be ocurring. Personally I'd keep some ammo lock or another ammoia detoxifier on hand and use it if the ammoina starts to spike.
