Hey guys i just wanted to let everyone know that i went down to stuart and picked up about 225lbs of dry rock from reefcleaners.org.

Wow i had originally placed an order from Marco rocks for the figi rock and have been unable to get a hold of them so i canceled the order and went down and picked up this from for 1/2 the price. It is very porous, i was just blown away how good it looked for Florida base rock, it even has old fossil shells embedded into it. I went and picked it up save a ton on shipping.

The large rock in the top left of the photo is a 45lb piece it will be the center for my 180g. I will get some more pics up when i get the aquascaping done.

I don't think it will all fit in the display but what doesn't fit will go in the sump and if there is still too much i want to upgrade to a peninsular 280 after this 180 so i will just keep it. I also have about 40lbs of live rock moving from my current tank.

Great move.

I'm a big fan of buying a small amount of the best live rock available and then filling up on base rock to be later seeded. Within 4 to 6 month's you'll never be able to tell them apart.
 
Just reading on the site and thought this was cool...still don't know if I believe the ancient reef thing:

Why would you not believe the ancient reef thing. There is a fair chunk of the state that is made up of exactly that. Stuff is hard as all get out and difficult to excavate through. Just because we live on a karst terrain in central and northern Florida does not mean that the southern part of the state was once submerged

Just never seen it with my own eyes...would like to though. I've seen rock deposits with shells etc in it but have never seen branching rock like that. I really would like to see it before they excavate. Plus I have never seen base rock like that from Florida especially.
 
I use to live in Miami. Some houses way down south you dig a few inchs of dirt and you hit rock. It is a pain in the but to plant stuff sometimes.
 
A fair amount of the aggregate used in Florida construction comes from down there since it is so hard. The limerock here is much softer.
 
Yea John told me that the guy he gets it from first sand blasts it then pressure washes it. It is definitely from an ancient reef of some kind as it is full of shell fossils.

If you are picking up the rock it is $1.50lb and the show pieces like the 46lb piece i got was 2.00lb. I got 225lb for $355 picked up compared to what i had ordered from marco it was 100lb shipped for $315 and i was actually able to get my marco order canceled after waiting more than a month with no projection on arrival date.

Not trying to advertise just thought i should get the word out especially for us in FL who can drive to get it vs having to pay a $1 a lb to have it shipped. Yesterday was my first purchase from them, i just don't want to have my thread closed b/c i am accused of advertising.

I measured the opening in the eurobracing for my 180 and it is only 18" i am going to have a hard time getting that 20x20" piece through there without breaking anything. lol

I got to see this stuff in person last night. It is by far the best rock I have seen. Porous isn't the word for it. I am envious of the ability to build caves with it.
 
All i can assume is that the business address is out of tallahasse but there warehouse is down in stuart where all of there merchandise is shipped from. It is just a tiny little warehouse in a strip. Brian you will be coming over to get all this damn rock in the tank.
 
we got the same rock from reeferrocks (i think that is right, but he closed due to injury). it is very nice stuff, and very easy to plug frags into!

That is some nice rock.much better than the lfs even if its not live yet.I need a bigger tank.
