do reef components, such as kalkwasser stirrers, calcium reactors, and skimmers, etc have to be made out of cylinder pvc and can they be made square out of sheets? this would cut down significantly on the cost, but would they still operate effectively?

You sure can make them out of flat stock, both my calcium reactor and my new skimmer are done that way. Pics are in my gallery if you want to see them.

where did you find plans for the square stuff or did you just make it up on the fly?

Well i got the plans for the reactor from RC by a guy named DJ88. As far as the skimmer goes its a very loose copy of an Orca skimmer, i borrowed the principle and winged the rest. I hope to have it testing by the weekend if i can get the time to devote to it.
