Reef Crystals VS Seachem Reef Salt

I'm looking to change salts(currently use Oceanic). I want a more balanced salt. I have it down to these two salt mixes. Can anyone give me the pros and cons of using each mix and what the biggest difference would be between the two. I heard Reef Crystals has changed their "recipe" for higher calcium and Mag levels. How can I be sure I'd be getting the new stuff if that is the one I go with?

I was also looking at the Red Sea Coral Pro salt but the low ALK kinda scares me away....

i've used both salts i didn't see any difference as far as the way things looked. i prefer the seachem because its higher in mag. other than that in my experience its a toss up.

Reef crystals will certainly give you high calcium and alkalinity. I personally use seachems reef salt for my situation. It contains nsw of potassium and higher magnesium than a lot of other salts. Pick a salt that suits the best to the levels you are aiming for. There are threads on here of salt mix test performed on various salt mixes. I kinda used that as a guage in determining which salt was best for me.

i dont dose anything, just use regular water changes once a month and when i switched from I/O to reef seachem my tank exploaded with lfe, my corals took off like weeds, my fish looked healthier ext...

my money is on the seachem reef. and to boot, its fairly in expensive when compared to other brands.

Did you have any of those borate issues I've heard about with Seachem?

Back when I started in the hobby I used Reef Crystals but switched because it didn't dissolve very good. Does the Seachem Reef salt dissolve well?

I did a lot of research and came down to these two as well. I don't think you can go wrong with either one. Currently using R/C, but will probably try some Seachem when I run out just for kicks.

I have been using Reef Crystals for some time now, but am looking at making the switch to Seachems reef salt. I'm not fond of the brown residue you get in your mixing bucket with the RC. Numbers are pretty good with it, but the Mag is a bit low. I have several friends from our club that switched to Seachem and love it. Said it dissolves easily with NO residue and the numbers are pretty much spot on and consistant. these same members made the switch to Red Sea Coral Pro salt back when all the salt comparison numbers came out. According to them (3 that I know of), that was the biggest mistake they ever made. I forget why exactly, but I could find out if needed.

I think seachem is coming out with a new salt under there Aquavitro brand, called Salinity. There is alittle info on it on there aquavitro website. I would like to give that a try also. I too am a longtime RC user, and am looking forward to trying seachems reefsalt..
