I'm building my 90 gallon reef aquarium into the wall and am in the market for lighting. Leaning towards going LED with a timer. This is my first saltwater tank and want to make sure my lighting is up to snuff but would rather not spend $400+. Likely to start with soft corals....Any specific recommendations? Hoping to take advantage of some sales...

If you want to keep corals, lights are very important.
I'd suggest not to skimp or you may regret it.
Check out the Radions.

i got two USA current 48-60 inch LEDs... love them.

180 USD each - good form and function.

i am new to this though - and have not done any corals yet... so others may be a better source of info.

I am also in the market for LEDs. I have been doing research and want to find a happy medium between cost and quality. I was discussing with the owner of my LFS who has been in the biz for decades (and more importantly, I trust). Has suggested I look at Reefbreeders Photon line. For me it's the right combination of quality, features and won't break the bank like some others. I saw signs of a possible upcoming sale in thier FB page and inquired. I have been informed by the owner that they will be running a sale in December. This may not be what you are looking for but may be worth you checking out. Love to hear if anyone has any actual experience with Reefbreeder.com

Check out reefbreeder photons. I have the 48" with 90 degree optics over my 75 and it works great.

I also have RB 48 photon on my 75 mixed reef. Works great for soft and LPS and some lower light SPS. It is a compromise between low light softies and high demand SPS as you can't please both. I raised my % up to 100% and softies suffered, lowered to 35% and SPS suffered. They can certainly keep both, but you have to decide what kind of coral you want to keep.. Look for a Black Friday or Xmas sale soon.

Is an article i read when i was determining which lights to choose, it really helped out, its lengthy but its a good read and its up to date.
I also went with a bargain LED I'm using a 20W 10,000K ecostar LED that i picked up for $60 that I'm currently using for my 25Gal its filled with softies, LPS's and one red monti but everything seems to enjoy it very much I also use 4 strips of the cheaper actinic (445nm) to provide nighttime/dusk lighting. On my 75 gal set up im working on in bumping the light up to (2) 30W 12000K LED's with some VHO lighting

I have both LPS and SPS. They both do great, everything it growing.

I like my Photon 48. Running it at 55%, might go up a little. Good value for the money. Mounting it can be a challenge though.
