Hi,

Just started to build a new tank at home... It's a 25gal tank (18*18*18) and I bought the Reef Octopus BH-90 for it. Right now there is nothing in the tank other than the sand and rock. So there should be nothing to "skim". But whenever I start the skimmmer (I would like to do the break in) it do bubble in the chamber enough to overflow in the cup. And all it is in the cup it's clear water.

Is it because the skimmer is brand new... or should I try something else. The control output valve is currently at "open".

Thank you for your help,
Martin

It is because the skimmer is new. There are still oils and junk on the skimmer from when it was manufactured. For mine I ran it in a 5 gallon bucket with equal parts rodi and vinegar. I let it run in this for a few hours and just kind of rinsed all the parts with the water vinegar solution then I rinsed the whole thing with straight rodi to get the vinegar off of it. Also make sure that the water level is correct for your particular skimmer. I had to build a little stand out of egg crate so my skimmer would sit a little higher in my sump. Good luck!
