I have the skimmer hooked up to my return pump. Should I be skimming the water coming from dd or the returning to the dd?

I got new pump hooked up. But skimmer don't seem to be doing its job. The skim mate is green. The skimmer don't seem to make hardly any foam.

I used a marineland 1200gal/hr pump on a manifold to dial it back. It also runs gfo/ carbon reactor.

How much flow do you estimate is going to your skimmer. If your skimmer is working you should get foam.Try running the Marineland pump with less gph,for the skimmer.I run my Reef Octopus skimmer at less than 750gph,and it is large external skimmer. If yours is a new Regal Reef Octopus, with the RODC 3500 pump it has a variable speed output for the amount of bubbles produced ,which affects the foam. Also,if it is new and you just set it up there is a break in period where it tends to give a watery output.

Yes it is a regal 200 with the 3500 pump. Checked flow it was up around 875 gal/hr so I reduced flow down to about 750 gph. The skimmer is about a year old. It skimmed great till I added new pump.
