Reef Ready Aquarium -- an inquiry

Is there a standard meaning to this phrase? Reef-Ready Aquarium? I thought it meant that the tank had a built-in overflow. I was at the LFS and they said it meant that it came with stronger lighting. Anyone want to clarify?

I'm just learning this stuff myself but RR means there are holes pre-drilled in the bottom for overflows (sumps etc). Each company is a bit different with what is standard (the overflow boxes, the plumbing etc,) versus what is extra.
The lights have nothing to do with it - I would find another lfs

The only thing with the lights is that if you 'go reef' (vs fish only or fish/live rock) you need MUCH stronger (expensive) lights. But that is not what RR means with regard to tanks.

It took over $5000.00 to make my "reef ready" tank really reef ready.

The term "reef ready" doesn't mean jack. You can ignore it.

Check out my www link and scroll to the very first post and checkout the tank I bought that was labeled "Reef ready".

Cheers
Josh

Industry standard for meaning of reef ready is a tank with a built in overflow box. There is a lot more for actually setting up the tank.

Strange that you asked that question tonight - I was just looking at reef aquaria on wikipedia where it explains the term - I hadn't known either what reef-ready meant. It also explains what a closed loop is - another one of those terms that I had been wondering about.
