HEY hey now...mantis shrimp are definitely NOT goby friendly.
Jeff...my fish are really tiny. So I am thinking that mostly anything non-vegetarian might eat them. The green banded gobies are ridiculously little, but I love them.
What about Fridmani's ??? They're a gorgeous fish... Some of the dottybacks can be somewhat aggressive, but the fridmani and springeri are supposed to be more passive... You could get one of those hybrids too... But I don't like them as much... I know when I added a fridmani to my 75g, my lunar wrasse and damsels destroyed it... So now I have one for my new tank and its doing great!!!
I'd love to get a mantis, but is a 5g too small for it???
Chris,
Thanks for the heads up. My tank is ready. If my wife does not deliver this weekend I will check CR out next week. She still owes me a birthday present.
You are totally trying to be picky... But we love ya anyways... Hmmm, how about Flame Cardinals??? I know you were reluctant to add Banggai's because of my mishap... I still don't know what to think about that... But the flames don't have the same body type as the banggais or pajama cardinals...
Did you get him up in CT??? I'm about to head up that way for Christmas... I know my favorite store in Milford closed... LMK which LFS are worth visiting... TIA!!!!!!
WRONG! It has been reborn "Bob's Exotic Corals and Fish" is open and carries copious reef fish and corals - go figure...
Anyway, all my fish are from Bob's place - the bellus above I've had for well over a year now - it was in Bob's store for 3 weeks and no one picked it up!
It's new location is Route 1 in Milford about 1-2 miles south of the big Mall at exit 39 - can't miss it
Is it still across the street from the Cinemas??? Or is it further down into Milford??? I'll definately look it up though THANKS!!!!! Where are you a Bio Teacher at??? I went to Amity back in the day...
That Peacock at CR was probably Pandarian's. I reached for my cell when I saw it there, but Chris told me that he (Donny) had already come in and saved it
Ok back on subject (hey we're still doing pretty good for an ETRC thread!).
Pseudochromids might work, but they are pretty good at hunting foods that the mandarins eat, so my worry would be them out-competing the mandarins. Fridmani are less agressive though, like Randy says, so all Mel would have to do is feed her tank several times per day
Small flame cardinals or any genus Apogon cardinals would probably be ok, but I've seen them get pretty big in the ocean (4-5"), so I wonder if they'd start to eye the small fish when they grow up?
How about more gobies!? Seriously though, there might be more goby varieties you could add. I like the dartfish myself, but already mentioned them...
Ok so here's what I am thinking...
green banded gobies (a ton...like 10 more)
neon gobies (maybe two)
blenny (either bicolor or midas)
two purple darfish (man I'd love those Helfrich's but I can't spend that much)
two clownfish *looks at Matt...hoping for the one-eyed one and a black one*
high-fin red banded goby (for my shrimp)
a few cleaner shrimp (probably regular ones since the red ones are even more shy)
jawfish (maybe two) but only if I can get the canopy up there and completely secure.
Here's a gorgeous tank for ya Mel... It has some Anthias, that Blue Jaw Trigger we were talking about and a pair of Wantanabei Angels... Absolutely Gorgeous!!!!!
