Reef Safe Puffer

I have gotten more opinions on this topic than I can keep up with from several local LFS. Has anyone had success with any puffer in a reef? My wife keeps squawking that she wan'ts a puffer and I have softies and LPS.

THeyre all reef safe if by reef safe u mean corals with chunks bitten out of them and no coraline algae.

But seriously though I have seen reef tanks online that have successfully kept Canthigaster pufers in them. BUt i doubt that a porcupine or arothron puffer would do.

I was told that dwarf puffers may nip at polyps but for the most part were safe. I was looking at a valentini. It sounds like it may not be worth the risk though. It would be nice if I could have a fish in the tank that i could see. My yellow watchman hides, my blackcap hides, and my maroon clown is hosting a bta that decided to attach on the back of my rocks :)

Not necessarily. All puffers have an extremely cosmopolitan diet, sampling and eating everything from cnidarians, crustaceans, echinoderms, algae, sponges, etc, etc. I would not trust any puffers in a reef aquarium.

i had a valentini in my tank for a while.. was great for ever then all of a sudden after like 8 months thought.. yum.. clam.. he had to go.. never touched anything before tha..
