A 180g should be fine for bluejaws, sargassum red tails are another option. Both are almost fully reef safe and generally can be found at smaller sizes vs cross hatches.
IME, most Triggers are reef-safe, but not invert safe, meaning they won't mess with your corals, but can murder your inverts. I had great success with the Bluethroat, Red-Tail, and Crosshatch in a reef.
I have a Niger in my 300 and he does great as far as corals go. I'm sure once he gets bigger, though, that I'll be replacing my inverts frequently! LOL
I have a a pink tail in my 180. And as the others have said, corals are fine, but inverts, forget it.. Lol.. But the thing is so hilarious to watch eat, I deal with no crabs in the tank for the most part. I have a few tiny blue legs and a Halloween hermit, along with a few turbo emails that have been in the system for a year at least. But anything new won't last ten minutes..
I got a blue jaw and he's a scaredy cat. Been in my tank since August and he still runs for cover every single time I lift my arm up over the tank to feed them. Cute fish though. I thought I'd never own a trigger in a reef tank until I discovered blue jaws
i have a sargassum and it hasn't touched a single shrimp or coral. I think they're one of the only ones that will not only leave coral alone, but inverts too
