reef safe triggers??

They have a niger trigger at the lfs and it doesn't nip. He's in their show tank and it's making me think I might want to get one :)
I've already got a nipper in my tank anyways.

i have a flame angel that is supposed to be a nipper, and it is great, no problem.

had a niger trigger and it was a demolition crew on inverts and corals.

i guess it is just a fish-to-fish basis and its just a risk that you have to decide if you are willing to take.

I have a male blue jaw and he is a model citizen. I love him, full of personality and I can hand feed him,,, have to get my fingers out fast now, he is getting bigger and faster! :) All in all a great fish!

Here is a pic of my trigger... my son named him Roy Rogers...LOL

Nigers are definitely hit or miss just like most angels and a slew of other things. I've seen them be fine, I know some people just say if you feed them well enough they won't bother corals, but I do know that they have a sweet tooth for some other reef inhabitants like crabs and shrimp and other things that you might want to have in there.

I've had my blue throat for 3 weeks and he is great. My blue tang is scared of him but he doesn't bother anyone.

I am guessing all these positive reviews are from peolple like me who have had these fish for a reasonably short period of time. I'd like to hear from someone who has had a Xanthicthys trigger for several years without any nipping or losses.

All we usually hear is "My trigger was great for about X years until he got a taste for Y and I had to get rid of him."

I know it can vary, but about what does the crosshatch trigger, small to medium sized, usually cost? The bluejaws are fairly reasonable aren't they?

I had never even consdered triggers because the guy that got me interested in this hobby said stay away from them, but I have really been thinking about one for my new 120.

crosshatches are usually pretty expensive, like over $200 or $300... I have even seen them higher than that...... I bought my Bluejaw for about $45...

mcrist Beautiful pair!!!
Thanks...

Crosshatch triggers are definitely an expensive fish with the males around 400-500 dollars. They are an open water fish so they are more difficult to catch or at least that’s what I have read.

Sounds like if the crosshatches prefer open water, I would be better off sticking with the bluejaw even without considering the cost. Thanks for the help.
