I have a 30g reef and want to add a dwarf angel. I like the coral beauties, rusty angelfish, and the flame angel. Out of these which would you say would be the reef "safest"? Or what would be another that someone has had with success in a reef?
have you checked out a flameback? 30 is a small tank and the flameback is one of the smallest of the centropyge angels...very hardy and beautiful little fish...
Hi, as I am sure you know, No angel is guaranteed to be reef safe. All of those you have listed are still a best 50/50. So while you can have any of them, just be prepared to either have some losses or able to pull the fish out. Fat angels are less likely to tryout your coral's.
And since all of them are wild caught. I have found that starting out with as small as fish as possible can help. My reason for this thought is, that they haven,t had as much time to get use to all of their natural food choices.
Don't forget to QT! most angels seem to be carring something.
I like the look of dwarf angels and would love to keep one in my tank but do not like the possible bed side manners that they have. If you want to keep one, just have to keep a eye on them while they are in the tank to make sure they are being a model citizen.
I have a pygmy cherub, which may have a taste for my blue and yellow zoas, but I have never caught him in the act. He leaves the green, orange, pink ones alone and my frogspawn, nepthea and a couple sticks he doesn't touch either.
