Yeah, Tom usually gives me a hard time about spreading the word too much on those. Jokingly of course. One year he invited me, then said ahh nevermind. forget it. "I don't need more than one good looking bald guy there." lol
If your bringing female aquarists with you though, perhaps it's an open door.

Lol. I've been to a couple. They are fun, a more laid back social setting than the normal in and out business feel. There's been snacks drinks and music in the past events. It's a good opportunity to get to know the staff on a more personal level. The party usually moves down to Murph's after where there is a tank they service. As for an invite only, I'm not sure but I'm usualy offered a ticket in advance for a lesser price than the " at the door" amount. But as far as I'm concerned the staff at TRS are fun knowledgeable people to have a few drinks with.
