Hey guys,
Ok I finally got all of my equipment in and I set up my tank tonight. I'm very excited but also a little scared (my last sw attempt was eaten by algae). Ok here's the skinny on my system:
Oceanic 40g stretch hex
Hamilton VHO lighting...195w total
10g DIY sump
Sealife in sump skimmer
150w heater
magdrive 5 return pump
72lbs LR
25lbs LS
2 maxijet 900s
I want to build a fuge out of an AC110
FUTURE LIVESTOCK
SPS, shrooms, and zoos
wrasse (six line or fairy)
basslet (black cap or royal gramma)
clown (true perc. or maroon)
dartfish (firefish or purple firefish)
coral beauty (I know its 50/50 w/them in a reef but they are one of my favorites so we'll see)
Also much much later I'm hoping I have enough LR to support a mandarin but don't worry I'm talking a year or so from now.
Sorry for the long post but I hope ya'll enjoy the pics and please feel free to comment, suggest, criticize (nicely), etc. I am going to take this very very slowly. I have already done a lot of research and reading but I know how easy it is to make mistakes. I trust my LFS but I don't want to rely on them totally so I'm counting on you experts! I want this to become a journal of my tank so tag along!
Thanks,
Steven

Looks like a good enough setup. Just go slow!!! I repeat just go slow! Also test your water!!! alot I repeat ALOT!!! Keep an eye on the coarse substrate tends to trap waste and bad things.

Enjoy the addiction

I am not sure that 195W total light is going to be enough to keep SPS. But what do I know :) ... maybe it will be plenty if you keep corals close to the top of the tank. Other than that It looks very cool!
Just make sure to clean filter media in your sump often (both in intake area and on return pump)
Cheers! :)

--- edit ---

one more thing: get another heater as a backup and run it in sump just in case.

Oh yeah, didn't catch the SPS thing. Probably not, maybe a select few species but doubtfully. Lots of great corlas can be kept with that lighting though.
