i have a 80gallon reef tank with many different corals and sea anemones. many different species of fish coexist in the tank as well. i bought some ick kick to try to help cure the disase but i dont feel it will work. this is the second time this happened in this tank. i also have a fish that suppose to help eat ick off the other fish as well as shrimps that help clean fish. i dont want to loose any more fish. it is hard to get the fish out the tank and put into another medicine tank just because the rocks and coral as well as anemones are all set up and dont like to be moved around.

I have used the Kick Ich on two occasions. Both times it eliminated the symptoms of the parasite. You will never get completely rid of the disease without removing all fish for 6 weeks as the eggs live in the substrate, hatch and look for a host. Keep your fish healthy, feed good nutritional foods and do what you can to alleviate their stress. A healthy fish can fight off the outbreaks.

thanks for the reply. as far as getting all the fish out, should i go in there and take them out no even if i have to move the coral and rocks around?

Ich needs the fish to survive. By taking all the fish out for 6 weeks the Ich in the tank has no host to continue its life cycle therefore it dies off. With the fish out, you can treat them seperatly. Leave your shrimps crabs and snails in the main tank. Ich cant use them as a host so in 6 weeks the Ich in the main tank will die, then when your fish are cured you can add them back.

so should get all the fish out or should i let the ick kick do the job? the problem is that it is a reef tank and all the rocks and coral are settled so that is why i ask if it is worth moveing everything to kill the ick or will it die on its own.

Most medications are not useful in the figh tagainst ick. Only two proven cure has worked: copper and hypo.

If you have a lot of corals, you have to break down the tank to catch the fish and hypo or copper treat them.

If you have a lot of fish and little corals, move the corals to a temp tank and hypo the tank.
