i recently moved and have a 180g with 200lb LR i had 3 fish in the system but let them go because i was not sure of my situation, well i did not need to get rid of them but i did and so be it, now to my question, what is the state of my reef?

do i need fish in the reef all the time or can i just add some corals and let it be?

will there be a cycle stage if i add back the fish now 3 weeks later?

this is getting complicated and i am in uncharted waters and need some professional advise only please!

Live Rock? doesnt make waste and clean as well or just clean?

i was thinking of putting in some damsals in the sump for a week or 2 to jump start if needed!

I have seen a few fish-less reef systems on RC over the yrs that looked pretty nice. Fish are not a requirement when keeping corals. Just look at all the fish-less frag tanks.

You will most likely see a mini cycle when you reintroduce fish, but nothing major. Just take it slow.

I'm not sure what your LR question is???

Does live rock produce waste of its own as well as cleaning the waste produced by other organisms? Yes.

AFAIK, everything alive excretes something. (This is one reason for the debate over whether viruses should be classified as "alive". When they're floating around outside a cell, they don't eat or excrete anything.)

Don't forget that a live rock is not a single creature, it's a whole mess of critters living on and inside a (non-living) rock. The net result of having all those critters and the rock, though, is to reduce the amount of waste (especially nitrogenous waste) in the system.

Here's my systems nothing special but I run less then 60lbs of L.R in my 90G only because I have a mandarin in there with 2 chromis
I'll be adding a second mandarin soon

and for my 20G I use less then approx 1 lb L.R

I don't think fish are neccessary but having 1 imo helps a bit to get a light frosting on the glass for snail's

also when you scrape the glass you are feeding scavenger's in your sand bed
