Reefballs.

It's a 501(c)3 nonprofit charity (read: contributions to them are tax deductible) that uses custom concrete-like spheres to rebuild natural reefs in damaged areas.

The balls are arranged on the sea floor in such a way that they both protect nearby beaches and allow natural reefs to grow - unlike tire and metal artificial reefs (which encourage large fish, but no coral or inverts), the concrete allows coral to encrust and inverts to thrive.

They also introduce aquacultured LPS/SPS frags that are likely to live in the area to encourage rapid growth. Some of the coral selection is scientific in nature (choosing pollution resistant strains in polluted bays, for example), and sometimes it appears to be based on more traditional conservation theory (find a coral that's rare and introduce it into wildly varying environments, so that it has a chance to make a comeback).
