reefers are you cooking your rock, how do you take care of your liveROCK?

nothing after i put it in the tank. no cooking, only cooking my rock may see is the cooking done at the LFS lol. maybe a brush off while in the tank to remove detritus once in a blue moon. oh and most of my rock i can say now is lava rock picked up and boiled in pan before i put in tank then a few weeks its LR.

Id rather cook it first ...this way I know what I am getting or not moreover..Didn't you used to DIY lr sic?
I still have some pieces u made in a clients tank nice stuff just takes forever to cure huh..
damn lime cement!

am i weird then wanting those hitchhikers from buying LR? i like the little things that come in for the most part. i havent gotten many hitchhikers.

Yeah when you get some weird type of algae or awesome black crab that eats every type of coral known to man then you will not like the idea of the cool things that come in on Lr..Don't get me wrong there are some cool things coming in on rock but one crappy thing is a deal breaker..Don't you just love hearing the snap of a baby mantis shrimp after just getting 150lbs of rock rodded together.......ha ha !!

lol that would be a bad thing yes i agree. and i would then probably start cooking everything in the oven at that point. roflmao. but ive been extremely unlucky and no hitchhikers on LR. or lucky whatever your pov is. but some mysis shrimp for my fuge would be nice, and some wierd lil crab or shrimp too. no mantis shrimp though i have a glass tank.

No dout"¦hahahaha or nothing like a 150 gallon tsunami in your living room"¦LOL

yeah you mixing plastic shavings in there ?or is it still sick's iron rock..??

that stuff if heavy man but you made some killer rock forms..

the old stuff is defff. iron, new stuff plastic shaving, Rock salt and a few others too lightin the load. going to make sum for K-feds new cube

When I set up my tank the live rock went directly from the LFS to the new tank. If I was ever going to add more it would go into a quarantine tub for a while. So far I haven't gotten anything that bothers me.

I currently only have 5 live rocks in my tank, and none of them touch each other. So if I did get something bad it wouldn't be as hard to get rid of it as those with mountains of rock.

I don't like live rock. Never know what you're going to get. If I got live rock, I'd kill it with a 1mo FW dip with H2O2, then re-cure it with all the die-off in SW seeded from my current tank. When it is fully cured, then use it.

I usually use dry rock like Marco Rock.

wow, I dig that Marco Rocks. Perhaps next time.

For my first reef aquarium I used GARF rocks as I to was worried about nasties that come in from the live rock. But it seems a bit moot when I go down to the LFS and add in coral or frags from friends mounted on rock....who knows what's on that???

this time around I went with LR from the LFS, the cost was high. for the amount paid, I could have jsut as easily bought that Marco Rocks setup.

When possible, pop the coral off the plug. Always, always dip your corals and use a baster to blow off stunned/dead/dying hitchikers. Povidone or Revive (etc) and FWE are your friends :)

yea shouldve done that with this last frag i got a aiptasia HH with it. its okay i like em and my peppermint shrimp loves em too.

I get all my LR from south west reef so it is the highest Quality no bad hitchhikers only good ones plus my rocks don’t touch each other so even if there were some bad things I could quickly remove it. so I am aaaalllllll gggoooodddd LOLOLOLOLO…tears are coming LOLOLOL..... OMG

Funny very funny C-men WOW

A little confused guys… SWRC guy with red hair told me that I had to have live rock in my TANK and would need at least 90 Lbs of it. I buy it a little at a time $$$. I put it in my tank when I get home from their store they said just put it in the tank “plop it in.” They are touching each other I made a little pile on one side what should I do? I called SWRC and talked to someone about cooking rocks. They had no idea what I was talking about. I told him it had something to do with killing the rock. Someone on here said something about putting it in the oven? I was confused at first, but when I called the experts at Southwest and they had no idea, I was really confused. HELP!!!!
