Anyone using reefers best salt?

Thinking about making the switch from Red Sea coral pro.

i stopped using KZRB for one simple fact.

the whole reason KZ preached you should be using this salt as the KH is 7 and that is optimal for running a zeovit tank. Later they had batches of KH 9-10 and said this is better as it replenishes KH consumption. There were a few threads on the zeovit forum which have now been deleted.

Not to mention the precipitation issues with this salt.

Reefers best salt

I've been using reefers best, and haven't had an issue. I currently do not have sensitive corals, but I was at one time using the full zeovit system. It is true, in a sense, that running low alk with zeovit is better than being higher, but I was not aware of them changing the alk in the batches to 9-10? I'm not really sure what issues there are with precipitation..... If someone could explain, that would be great. I think that you shouldn't change salts often, but I may consider changing to reduce costs if I don't need it.

I was also using reefers best in my 50 gallon system WITH SPS and dosing only sponge power, biomate, amino acids, and coral vitalizer. I'll say that I think the only way I kept the SPS was the zeovit dosing, as I've never had good results with SPS, until that system. It lost it's groove when I moved to Utah for three months, and the SPS died off, probably because dosing stopped.

Edit: I've read up on this precipitate issue, and it doesn't seem to be any bad batch or issue that everyone could replicate. Here's an excerpt from their forum:

I think there isn't a bad batch or fake. If you are getting a white powder on the sides of the glass and moter this is almost certainly precipitation of calcium.

First, Precipitation can be caused by adding the salt too quickly; this will cause calcium to drop out of solution as the water becomes super saturated locally.

Second, If the water was warmed this can induce precipitation. If the water wasn't aerated before use high levels of CO2 dissolved into the water will reduce the pH of the RO water, it will also shift the Carbonic acid to the bicarbonate phase and it may increase the alkalinity to a level that will induce precipitation when the salt is added(above-mentioned by Alexander).

more powerful motor and use it within 1-2 hour......

Interesting info, I appreciate it. You ran the zeovit method before and you do not right now, is that only because you don't have sensitive corals?

I temporarily moved to Utah for three months, and I knew that even water changes were barely going to happen, so I just removed my Vibe. I'll go back to it once I actually return to my house and am there, starting in April.

Oh okay, have you looked into the triton method at all? I saw a gorgeous tank on the sps forum that has never had a water change. Still requires a good amount of work but hey, no water changes.

Not to mention the fact that zeovit dosing has become very easy with the pacific sun kore 5th dose and accessory magnetic stirrer. It can dose by the drop now, opening the world of zeovit to automation.
