Reefkeeper 2

Does anyone have one of these?

If you do, do you like it ?

Is it easy to use?

Would you buy another one or a different brand if you had to do it all over again?

If you own another brand what sold you on that one over the reefkeeper 2?

Thanks
Dave

Wow i'm supprised no one has one of these or any other type of controller. Are we that backwoods around here?

I'm at a point now where i can think about spending money in the higher tech stuff like the reefkeeper. Would be nice to automate some stuff. I like the benefit of the temp control area like turning on fans and turning off lights etc. as the temp changes. After i square away my ATO I will most likely be buying one of these. Guess i'll just have to go this on my own info i have gathered.

IDK about low tech being the way to go......if i didnt just get new lumatek ballast's, i probily would either have gotten the Reef Keeper 1 or 3 the 2 doesnt, to me, justifiy the price incress for the options they added. But the RK 3 looks very nice...:)

just my opinion... dont get me wrong, if someone gave me one, i'd use it. The cost just doesnt justify it for me. I dont see much advantage over what I have other than coolness factor

i guess for your set up it wouldnt be needed, but you dont have a chiller, Ca reactor, or check ORP. these are the things that would make life so much easyer for people who do...:) as well as it is one thing that will do it all...no need for speparate timers for lights. no need for a separte PH controller for Ca reactor. as well as energy savings it wont allow the heater to turn on while the fans or a chiller is running. as well as a safty for if the tank gets to hot and the fans fail it turns the lights off so you dont bake the tank. there are alot of advantages to having one.

also the cool factor to be able to graph your tanks para and transmit them to a web site....very nice feature if you are out of town and can catch anything going wrong para wise.

I have had an RK2 for about a year now and I find it a very useful piece of equipment. The temp control is ideal as it allows my basic fans to know when to turn on and off. Also, the light timer is great as it is very accurate and will turn the main lights off if it is too hot in the tank which occurs quite often in the summer. Feeding is easy, push a button and all equipment that you select (i.e. pumps, powerheads, skimmers) will turn off for a pre-selected amount of time.....good for water changes too. If you really have your heart set on the RK2, I would look for a used one as the RK Elite is set to be released @ $500. Many people who have the RK2 will potentially be upgrading. Otherwise, the RKE would be the rout to go if you had the $$$.

I have an RK1 and I got it used. I would say it has already more than paid for itself with the money it has saved me in electricity. My fans and heater were always fighting each other and both on most of the time. Now they are both off most of the time and the temp is much more stable. It is a money saving piece of equipment and a good investment if you are going to be in the hobby for any length of time IMO. Oh and if that is not enough it really is luxurious, gives me piece of mind, and is makes me IMO an uber reef geek. If you want to be a reef geek get one

THANK YOU Nate!!! Some informative info. These were things I was thinking about but needed to hear form someone who had one.

Thanks

I was very interested in picking one of these up awhile back mainly for light/temp. control. I still may, but keep in mind that if and when you buy a chiller many of them now incorporate a heater for extra $$$ and allow for fine tuning of temperature...........thus avoiding a chiller fighting heater scenario similar to the fan versus heater battle mentioned above.

I guess what I'm saying is that your money could be better spent on a chiller if temp control is a key consideration. I would recommend looking into Pacific Coast's offerings.

The Elite has so much hype surrounding it. People looking for a controller should wait for this product as it looks to be a solid system at a reasonable price.

I got a RK2 in March and have been playing with it on my 40 gallon. I am in the process of setting up a new 150 SPS tank and I really am excited about using this controller on the system. The controller is very good at controlling temperature and I really like the pause button that turns off all pumps during feeding. I was able to set up a wireless connection from the controller to my laptop and am able to data log using the myreef software. I will be adding a ph probe with the new tank and I plan to use a two part dosing system that is triggered based upon the ph probe. I have really enjoyed the RK2 so far. I have not been disappointed.

My RKE showed up today.......Holy Moly! This is one awesome piece of technology...It will do many things and the options are insane...as well as the add on's that are coming in a few months. This really going to help me keep everything in check..
