ReefKeeper or RK2 controller group buy?

So I guess it's down to who wants to give us the best group deal...

I'm kinda partial to the RK2 from what I've seen, but that is only from pictures and brief descriptions, not from any kind of advanced knowledge.

Just thought I would throw my 2 cents in as a happy owner of a RK2. It really is a nice unit and very easy to use. I am very curious to see how the data logging software upgrade turns out next month.

As much as I hate to admit it (because I didn't buy one), I think the AquaController is a little more dynamic unit as it already provides a GUI, data logging (which I believe requires an optional serial port), phases of the moon simulation, day-length variation as well as modifiable programming.

Another thing I like about the AC Jr. is that Neptune will take it in on trade against an upgrade. This is a nice option if you every plan to upgrade down the road. Not sure if Digital Aquatics lets you do that.

I've been seriously looking at the RK2 and if we can get a price break or the PH probe thrown in that would be great, and an excuse for me to buy a calcium reactor! LOL

To get substantial savings, we would need to try to order around 10 units. I'm sure that there would also be a decent discount at 5 units!

It seems like we can get 5 units ordered pretty easily... start thinking about the upcoming holiday season and it is possible that we can get more orders together.

Lets keep this going :)

I would rather see about a price break on the AC jr as it is cheaper right now than the RK2. At $225 http://www.neptunesys.com/products.htm
Thanks, Tim

Both products do seem like good options.

As MJAnderson mentioned:

"I recently got in on a Aquacontroller group buy. Neptune seems a little more aggressive in their pricing. The same person approached DA and they refused to do any discount.

I got the ACjr with backlight & serial port upgrade, ph probe and the DC8 for $270. Think it was about $60 off. From my research it is a little more flexible (or at least was...now sure what the firmware upgrade added)."

If we could work out something similar, or better in comparison to that... I would be up for it!

fyi---make sure you're comparing apples to apples. On the RK2, the serial port is included. On the ACjr it's not. I think both of them have backlight as standard now.

The ACjr with DC8, serial port and standard PH probe is $294.

The RK2 with DC8, serial port and standard PH probe is $317.

I did some price comparisons and have found some decent prices and this is before we deal with any sort of "group buy".

ACjr with DC8, serial port and standard pH probe: $280.85

RK2 with DC8, serial port and standard pH probe: $302

These are the best "retail" prices that I've seen on these units.

I've been in the market for a controller as well.

RK2 "retail" more

ACJR "retail less" but is a proven product and has more feature

At the end of the day with all the options that's included with the RkII the ACJR can offer plus datalogging which is still a promise by the RK but has not been delivered. I forgot what's the other feature the ACJR have over the RKII but I just know that the ACJR has more feature and controllability.

ACJR has been sold for around 260-270-ish shipped with DC8, serial, PHprobe and of course the temp.

I found a deal on the RK2 with DC8, serial, pH probe, and temp probe.

1-4 units = $270 + paypal charges and shipping
5-9 units = $270 shipped each
10-14 units = $265 each
...and so on

I'm not in any hurry to do this order, but if we could decided on a final date that you have to get me the money, that would be great.

I'd love to have this before the month of December, but if there is more interest for a December delivery, I suppose that I can wait. I'd like to place the order on November 23rd (Monday after our meeting).

Hopefully the data logging software will be out for the RK2... if not, it will be shortly after.

Thanks!

Controller

I've seen both units and am still partial to the RK2. I really need to upgrade my situation soon, so if the group buy is going to be a ways down the road count me out on this one. Gotta spend the cash before my wife talks me into an appliance or something!!

I would not mind doing it sooner, if we can get people together.

"Down the road" would be a month.... but if we can't work it out, I'll try to find you a way to get this: $270 + paypal charges and shipping if you would be interested.

bump - anything new to report on this?

Yes... the same deal as above stands.

RK2 with DC8, serial, pH probe, and temp probe.

1-4 units = $270 + paypal charges and shipping
5-9 units = $270 shipped each
10-14 units = $265 each
...and so on

I can also get a deal on the Neptune, but I have researched and I really prefer the RK2.

I'm pretty sure that we will be able to get at least 5 units from people in our area.

Please PM me or post here if you are interested. I would love to make the order after the November meeting.

Alright, let's start a list of those interested...

I'll update as I get PMs and responses to this thread.

So far I know of:

Please let me know if I should add your name to the list!
The sooner, the better.
