Euroreef has one in this forum, so why can't we??? :)
Seriously though, I was involved in a group purchase on a ReefTek CA reactor, and I think this would be a great thread for all those who own a Reeftek Ca or Nielsen reactor to share their experiences, setup and tweaking advice, on the reactors. I should be receiving mine next week, so I will post pics then.

I'd be game for a ReefTek group. Here's a pic of mine.

I recieved mine a few weeks ago and could not be more happy with it. The craftsmanship, quality, ease of use and EXCEPTIONAL value are what makes this unit top notch.

I was part of the group order that Rebels put together for us. I'm still waiting for mine, should be here in a couple of days. Can some of you who already have reefteks and have them up and running help with the initial set up. How are the instructions, easy or does this take some time? How about setting the bubble counter and flow amounts ect.

Thanks, Scott

The unit is simple to set up and the quality seems great. It basically comes pre-assembled. The part I am having the most trouble with is the effluent rate. The way to control it is with a ball valve (I think that's what it is) but its hard to get the drips adjusted. It's either full flow or off... its hard to get just the right amount of drips. But once you get it you can set it and leave it. There's really not much else to do.

I just purchased a reeftek nielson reactor. I have a DIY one too that KW built me.

The reeftek came damaged in shipping. Not badly, just the two acrylic feet were broken off. I didn't bother contacting reeftek, I need some acrylic cement anyway and its an easy fix. I haven't hooked it up yet, but it looks to be mostly top quality. I think the feet are pretty flimsy and should be improved though. This is not a critical aspect of the reactor though. All the important pieces seem top notch quality. I like the design (other than the feet) a lot.

phishlet, sounds good, I can't wait! Do you think it would be better to have a small gate valve instead of a ball valve, they are more precise. Just a thought!

im very happy with my reeftek calcium reactor. i do agree that getting the effluent drip rate where you want it can be a little tricky. Overall i am very happy with my purchase though. Jorge is a great guy and his customer support is top notch.

I received my Nieslon this past Tuesday, and love it!

I did drill a tiny anti-syphon hole in the top of the water inlet tube though, because whenever the feed line was disconnected, it was automatically draining down to the tube level... Problem resolved! :D

Set-up and use instructions.

Set-up and use instructions.

Hello,

Is someone able to post the set-up and use directions given by Jorge with the reactors.

I should haved mine soon too. I'd like to see the directions posted here where we can each share our experiences with using the directions.

PS, anyone who missed the North Central Penn. Aqurium Reef Society frag swap last week missed a great reefers meeting. You should look forward to the next meet.

There's no need to post directions, because it's a simple matter of connecting the lines to the IN and OUT fittings, filling with up to 3 cups of Kalk or Pickling Lime, plugging the pump into a timer, and then using some form of controller to regulate your top off.

I noticed on phishlet's picture some sort of solenoid on the CO2. Does that go to a controller? How do you control the Ca Reactor? What if you don't yet have a controller?

You can plug your solenoid into a ph controller. I don't at this point. I just plug it into a surge protector so if the power goes out the co2 won't continue to leak into the reactor chamber. I'd like to get a Pinpoint pH controller at some point though.

This would be for the kalk reactor, not the CA reactor. The CA reactor is a bit more involved.

Thanks for the pic! Either my directions are wrong or it came pre-connected wrong. The instructions say that the green tube is th output tube, but it came connected to the spot under the bubble counter. Isn't that supposed to come from the CO2 tank? Your pic doesn't show ANY green tubing, but the pic cuts off the tube coming out of the top. HELP!

Arrrrrggghhhhh.

Arrrrrggghhhhh.

Ok, there are two *kinds* of tubing. Both look like quarter inch, but one (green) is like the kind on RO/DI units. The other (black) is "soft sided". If the black is the output tube, coming out of the top of the reactor, it kinda lays over and half kinks itself. So help me out here. What connects to what?
Thanks in advance,
Tagamet

my reactor's tubing is slightly different then phishlets.

i have a stiff green tubing that is used for the output of the reactor. this is connected on the very top of the reactor.

next is the thicker blue tubing that is the input (this is the same as phishlets)

last is a black tubing fairly flexible that is connected to the check valve. this goes from the co2 solenoid/regulator. this is specific co2 tubing.

Perfect! Yours is exactly like mine and that's how it would logically be setup, but often we need to rule out "logic".
Thanks, now I think I'm set.
