refractomiter

does anyone have a refractomiter that they could help me get my hydromiters calibrated with, im finding it very difficult to get an accurate readout on my salinity and its driving me crazy

i have an instant ocean hydrometer and a smaller oceanic hang on hydrometer and i get different readings from both

well I use the floating lab kind, more accurate than the swing arm but not as accurate as a refractometer ....be glad to let use use that. :)

awsome, at this point I will gladly accept any help. I know my salinity is way off and my sps are super stressed from it but i dont know how off it is and its driving me nuts

you can swing by my house tmrw if you want bring some water with you and we can check it out. I just got the swing arm but it has been accurate with all the tanks. You know when you are doing your water changes something I had a problem with and lost a couple of sps was I wasn't checking my salinity because I thought it was always constant. However, I kept doing my water changes and my salinity shot up because one thing i learned is that salt doesn't evaporate and I was just putting more salt water in the tank making my salinity higher. Hope it helps

the LFS will test salinity for you ...HYDROMETERS are the segway to disaster ...very undependable...this is just my experience...
refractometers are worth the investment...

air bubbles have alot too do with inaccuracy of hydrometers so tiny you can't hardly see them and they can throw off your reading...call me and i will show you how to use them and we can check them for calibration.

Marty, all that rum at Playhouse the night before must have still been running through your veins when you posted that. LOL

Ron, I'm not saying another word! But I will tell you this: It was a good night to blow off some steam, which I clearly needed to do!!
