i just set up my refug light. i have nothing yet in my refug as far as plant life or the cheto (sp). should i still turn my light on anyways even though there is nothing in there. also, i have heard some people turn the refug light on when there main tank lights go off. than turn the refug light off when the main tank lights come on. any help...

No, there is no reason to turn on a fuge light if there is no macro.
But when you do get some and put it in, do use a reverse daylight cycle. I will help stabilize the ph in your main tank.

While you do not have any macro yet. Do you have any sand or rocks in the refuge? If so, you may want to turn on the light to begin going through your algae cycles.

Also, the reason to turn on the refuge light when the main display lights are off from what I have gathered is to keep your ph stable. I do not this for sure and you will have to research this more. However, I do use that lighting schedule but solely to keep my tank a degree or two cooler while the main tank's lights are on.

since you have live rock in yor fuge I woud turn them on, never know what might grow with out any preds

Sound like its time to turn on the light but start off slow. Turn it on for 2 hours the first day and increase gradually the following days. This will keep the algae from growing out of control too quickly. Then once you have the lighting on for the full light period throw some chaeto in there.
