What types of algae and plants should I try to keep in here?

Cheato is fine , mb some rubble rock for the pods. whats the substrate ?

Your good to go, but they do have specific refug substrate. Also throw a crab if you want and later any unidentified hitchhickers.
Mangroves are nice also.

Chaeto.. Mangroves are fun, but very slow growing.
