refugium compatible fish

hi. I want a fish in my refugium for no reason in particular. I was wondering about some good candidates.

the fuge houses a couple inches of sand.. live rock... chaeto, red mangroves, cactus caulerpa, a red macro for herbivores, pods, couple hermits and snails.

the primary reason for the fuge is the pods for my mandarin dragonet... so a fish that eats them is out of the question.

my first thought is a blue damsel because they are cool, can't be safely put in my display, grow only 2", and are more on the herbivore side. do u think one would destroy my macro or pod population? if they only eat a bit of the macro its fine... but if they are lawn mowers its bad.

any other fish come to mind?

I know the general thinking on this forum is not 2 use refugiums 4 housing fish, but if this is something u would like 2 try, we should probably know the size of this refugium before we give any fish suggestions?

I have no experience with damsels but I would think that they would eat pods just like most fish.

5 gallons of swimming space... 34 gallons total water volume. maybe a couple gallons more.

Not aware of any fish that wouldn't eat your pods, so think it would be best to skip putting any fish down there.

Not to hijack the post, but any suggestions for fish regardless if they eat pods or not? I have about 6 gallons fuge very similar to the OP, and I thought a fish would be cool. I would like some sort of seahorse or pipefish, but I didn't see any suitable options so other fish would be interesting. I don't have my heart set on it, so it's fine if I don't get one, and I don't have any particular fish that need any pods made by the fuge.

I believe that if you add a fish to your refugium, it's no longer a refugium. It's just an attached tank with lots of macro.
