refugium help

I want to turn my sump somewhat into a refugium. So far I added a light and some chaeto. Should I add some live rock and sand? I also saw a product called reef mud, does anyone have any experience with this? Anyways I cant find a whole lot of knowledge out there one the subject of refugiums, so any info would help. Some pics would be awesome if anyone has any.

Dude, I'd love to help, but I just threw my sump/refugium into the shed almost two years ago. My Fluval 404 and 350 gph Skilter keep my water crystal clear and the water parameters perfect. I am not a fan of sumps and under DT refugiums. With enough filtration and LR/DSB there won't be any water issues. Just MHO.

as far as a fuge goes i use LR rubble where the tank drains into the fuge followed by a center section of live sand (but not deep), i also have a 5 gallon bucket set up as a remote dsb using playground sand (a maxijet 1200 provides the circulation to the rdsb). i have a nitrate problem right now but that is because i have not done a waterchange in a while and i am waiting for the rdsb to kick in but nothing in my tank is unhappy. i heanve used a marineland c-360 for awhile but took it off because i opted for the refugium/dsb route (why not the tank was rr anyway) :lol:

We've got a fuge that we built when we set up. It is a 30 gallon tank and serves a 90 g reef. Besides helping with physical filtration, it increases the overall volume of the system which makes it more stable. It has 3 chambers, the first 2 are separated by a bubble trap. The skimmer is the first chamber; the second has live sand, live rock, and chaeto, and the third has our return pump.

We've done a bunch of little plumbing "tweaks" and it's hard to show/describe them here.

If you look at the live stock selling forum you will find people selling bags of chaeto for under $20 shipped.

I have a few frags and more xenia then I know what to do with but I want to get my aiptasia under control before I risk jacking up someone else's tank with these little @#$*ers. The only place I have found chaeto in town is Oasis and its $25 for half a piece a bag
