Refugium HOB question

I was going to add a Hang-on Refugium to my 75g tank. I have Mh lighting (250 x 2) and I was wondering if I need seperate lights for my fuge or would the MH I already have give off enough light to it??? Please advise.. my lights are on about 8 hours daily.

does anyone have a Hang-on Refugium or know where i can get it cheap?

I would imagine that would be enough, Ive seen some pics around here with people lighting them with just regular cheap clip-on desk lamps.

I would definitely get a seperate light as most people run their refugiums on an opposite light cycle as their main tank lights. I for example run my main tank light from 9am - 9pm and my fuge light from 9pm - 7am. This allows your macro algae in your fuge to theoretically outcompete any nuisance algae for nutrients.

is that what most people do? turn on the lights at nights??

wouldn't that defeat my moonlights since my fuge is HOB?

Impatient are we? Lots of people on here have refugiums, and whats been told to you basically covers it. Many run them on reverse cycles to combat heat issues during the day (running double lights), and it helps prevent major ph swings overnight.

The moonlights won't interfere with your fuge light at night...mine don't...especially if you have a CPR AquaFuge2 with the black acrylic back facing your tank like I have. I highly recommend you run your HOB fuge lights on a reverse cycle from your main tank lights. It helps with heat issues, keeps pH stable and gives the upper hand to the macroalgae in your fuge which is a good thing :-).

Put a back on your tank and run the lights for the HOB fuge on a reverse cycle. having a back on the tank makes the HOb refugium less distracting and gives you the benefit of the inverse light cycle so you can stabilize your pH.
