My fuge is packed wall to wall with chaeto. I generally pull 1/2 or more out & let it grow back. What do you do?

My fuge is a 35g with caulerpa and cheato. The cheato way outcompetes the caulerpa. I was removing about a footbal size chunk ( half the ball ) every couple weeks, but now i've decided to let it grow more before removing some, I'm shooting for basketball size or larger, I will probably only remove 1/4 of it at a time to maintain as large of a piece as possible for continued nutrient uptake. About once per week I turn, shake,and fluff it.
