Refugium light bulb from Home Depot

I want to change out my bulb in my fuge it's not growing cheato like I want to .but it's growing a bunch of other crap .

Right now I have a 5000k flood light clip on .

Is there a higher K bulb I could use ?

Could I use those spiral 6500k spiral bulb?

I have a 5000k sylvania floodlight (LED) and it works quite well. I think it's 13W (75W equivalent) and has a clear lens with a reflector. It seems to work better than 6500k for me.

Agree I found the bluest LED Bulb they had, around 20 bucks, and it works great

Go to Menards and find the 250 watt equivalent led flood light by Sylvania. They are around $40. Best $40 you will spend on lighting a refugium. They put out around 2400 lumens and it grows Chaeto like crazy.

Forgot to add get the outdoor version as it's resistant to water.

Daylight so around 5-6000K and they have a yellow 3000-3300K. This is the first led from a big box store that's given me the results I've wanted.

I was running a 100 watt equivalent led bulb in a cheap reptile reflector. I wasn't happy with growth. I try to pack as much light as I can into my refugium since I rely on my chaeto to soak up excess nutrients.

I can't justify a refugium specific reef light due to the cost of them. Who wants to spend $300 to grow algae. :lol:

They have strong LED flood lights on Amazon that are like $15 -- They're for outdoor security use or lighting lawn decorations at night, but you can find them in a bunch of different spectrums, and lots of people here have sworn by them.

They are equivalent to 250w - 1000w MH, depending on how many watts you want (10w - 50w options), built in reflector, weather proof, fairly low running temp.

Do some searching, this has been covered a lot. I would make a decision based off something LOTS of people say is ideal, rather than 1 person. Even for advice I gave you -- Search, read, prosper.

I've had good luck with the HD led bulbs too...I just picked the highest kelvin I could find and max lumens when comparing them.

My next fuge light however will be a DIY led setup....rapidled has some nice parts you can make your own for pretty cheap.

Until I do that, flood lights work well enough

No, I'm not. My light is a regular old flood light type led bulb that screws into any light socket. It just happens this light puts out 2400 lumens. It's bright. Sylvania makes it.

This is pretty much exactly what mine is too. LED flood by Sylvania, bought at Lowes, fits in a standard medium base bulb socket. I just have the smaller 75W equivalent version. Works well.

Sorry, i wasn't clear -- I meant the same type as in a floodlight, not the same exact style of light.

But I've seen the ones i'm talking about heavily recommended, i haven't seen the one you mentioned around the forums but I have no doubt it works fine.

I've been using this one for growing plant in my indoor green house before planting outside. I also use it for my fuge light, and it works really well.
