In the beginning stages of building a 90ish gallon system. I'm using a trigger systems emerald 20cube sump. Fuge section is 19.5"x6". I'm doing some research on how to light it for chaeto. Being that it's so long and skinny it seems like it would take two CFL or Par38led or kessil h150 to get proper coverage if I place them low enough not to spill light(and grow algae) all over the sump. So I was looking at the possibility of an led strip light.
a 20" finnex planted plus(78$/14w) looks ideal, but I've had problems with them in my freshwater setups in the past as they are not splash proof.
18-24" current freshwater plus(100$/13w) seems like it would work. The control features are pretty useless for this application but if it lasts longer than the finnex the extra money would be worth it.
Both seem a little low wattage wise, but they do end up being closer to the water because they rest on the rim, so that may compensate and give comparable par to a higher wattage but further away fixture.
2CFL clamp lamps is the cheapest initial cost option but PAR38 leds can be found fairly reasonable online.
2 Kessil h150(I've also seen a knockoff by a company call ohmax for about 54$) would be the highest output. The kessil is pricey though. The ohmax is about 30w so two of them would be a lot of light for a decent price. Not sure about the quality though.
Anything else I should be looking at?
