I have a lights of america flood light fixture and was pretty disappointed it in. Looks and lighting output, but then again I bought the smaller one.

I think I might do the bulb type light like melev did. The only thing I don't like is the the glare that it might put out.

The lighting output is 6500°K.....I also have the bulb type in my fuge now....till I get my 75 up then Im putting back the LOA fixture....Thats right you have your Fuge out in the open.... have you thought of maybe building a stand next to your tank to match your tanks stand....you know I built matching stands next to my tank for my topoff water and other things but never set them up just went with a whole new system....38 gal to a 75 gal....

Hey Bckane I've been looking for you!!! hehe I was looking for the person that modded their LOA fuge light which is exactly the light I am using. And you are right, ever since I started to use this light my Cheato started to grow like crazy. Because of the heat I actually have to have a small fan clipped onto my stands door and it looks ugly and I want to close the stand door. If you don't mind me asking, which fans did you use and how did you wire them?

thanks dude,

Lou

Those look like standard 9mm PC fans....like the ones you find on old P3 boxes.....

Just my opinion though Im a silly I.T. guy....lol

Brian, you are da MAN!!! Thanks dude that helped immensely. I am going to do that same exact mod. One last question, the way you wired them to the 12v power supply are they always running?

Thanks a million dude.

I have the fans on the same timer and the lights so when the lights come on the fans come on

Hey Brian, could you possibly post a picture of the power supply you used or maybe post the type and model number as I'm stumped whether you used a 12v power supply or 12v transformer? Also did they come with the metal fan guards and screws? Or did you have to go to HD for those?

Thanks again,

Lou

Simple. Go to home depot, and get the clip on desk lamp of your choice. Should be around 7 to 10 dollars, depending on what you buy. Then go to the light bulbs, and buy the 65w power compact spiral bulb, the one that screws into a standard light bulb socket. Look at all of em, because only one says 6500k. The bulb costs $7. It's been serving me well for 3 years, and I changed it a year and a half ago just so it wouldn't burn out.

Thanks for the reply Ludwig, but I don't know if you meant to reply to my post or someone else's as I already have a LOA light working beautifully and my cheato is growing like mad.

Again to my question to Brian whenever he gets a chanve to reply;

Don't mean to butt in, but I don’t think there is any good value on adding any fans to that fixture if the sump is inside the stand, IMO all you are creating is a nice convection heater in your entire cabinet, this will really do a good job at transferring the heat to your water.
IMO you may want to install a couple of exhaust fans high in the cabinet to try to move the hot air out, as you all know heat rises. Other than that is wasted energy!
